Introduction

Mesopotamia is a historical region of Western Asia situated within the Tigris–Euphrates river system, in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent. Today, Mesopotamia occupies modern Iraq.

In the Paleolithic epoch, humans first arrived in Mesopotamia. People in the region lived in tiny villages with round homes by 14,000 B.C.

Following the domestication of animals and the development of agriculture, most notably irrigation techniques that took use of the close of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, these homes formed farming villages 5,000 years later.

Sumerians introduced to humanity is the cuneiform writing that appeared about (3200BC). Which was written on sheets of soft clay.

as their capital. Babylon began to develop agriculture, trade and industry, to become the greatest city in Mesopotamia.

Mesopotamia reached the height of their greatness in that era, and the Babylonian language became the prevailing language.

Hammurabi's laws were put integrated to all aspects of social life Babylon, and aimed at asserting the rule of law and protecting the weak. This is historically known as the law of Hammurabi that he wrote it on his famous board.

The First Babylonian State's civilization ended when Hittites attacked and destroyed the city of Babylon and then looted its treasures. In that period the Assyrians were able to fully control their own state in the north and decide Assyria to be their capital.
