MELODIC

PROSODY

MELODIC PROSODY

prosody -

1) the natural pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in spoken language

2) the study of metrical structure in poetry

3) unity of lyric and melody in song

It was Mary who had the littlest lamb

With fleece just as white as the snow

And all of the places that Mary went

The lamb would most surely go

Mary had a little lamb

Whose fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went

The lamb was sure to go.

MELODIC RHYME

MELODIC RHYME

Great commercial melodies move with parallel internal structure just like lyrical rhyme.

From the PERFECT RHYME of exact repetition along the continuum to looser or "slant" rhymes of ASSONANCE or CONSONANCE.
