Nile is a major north-flowing river in Northeastern Africa. And the longest river in the world!
It is the longest disputed river as the Brazilian Government considers Amazon as the longest river.
Nile is about 6,650 km(4,130 mi) long.
It flows through Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi,
the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Republic of the Sudan,
and Egypt.
It is the major source of water in Egypt and Sudan.
The drainage basin of the Nile covers 3,254,555 square kilometers which is approximately 10% of
the area of Africa.
Nile has two tributaries: White Nile and Blue Nile.
The name has derived from the Latin word "Nilus" who was considered to be one of the river gods.
The Greek historian Herodotus wrote & quoted:
"Egypt was the gift of the Nile"
The Nile was also an efficient means of transportation for people and goods.
The ancient Egyptian calendar was based on the three cycles of the Nile.
For centuries expeditions repeatedly failed to find its source.
The Nile supports vegetation and wildlife in the whole of Northeastern Africa.
