Previewing is skimming over the title, illustrations, pictures, vocabulary, and headings before reading the text.
Well how does this help us?
Previewing helps students connect background knowledge with the text, and activates our prior knowledge.
Talking to the text is an effective strategy that helps the reader remember more relevent information. This happens because when we read aloud we are creating not only visual memory links but also auditory memory links. When we read aloud we often ask questions to the text causing us to think deeper into the text. Reading aloud can also cause us to focus more on the text rather than when we read in our head. Overall talking to the text can help us break down information and remember the relevent information.
