CHARACTERISTICS
The largest favela in the Brazilian city has 70,000 inhabitants and was considered the most dangerous in the world.
Why?
The Rocinha favela has been divided into large drug trafficking groups, along with exploitation, rape and prostitution.
- High demographic density, with a large number of residents and homes located in a small area unit.
- Residences built informally, using the self-construction method.
- Low access to essential urban infrastructure, such as basic sanitation and electricity networks.
- precarious provision of public urban services, such as garbage collection, public transport, security, health units, etc.
