Philippine Constitution,
Section 14, Article 2
USE of NON-SEXIST LANGUAGE IN ALL OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS, COMMUNICATIONS, and ISSUANCE
“State recognizes the role of women in nation-building, and shall ensure the fundamental equality before the law of women and men.”
It is the use of language which devalues members of one sex, almost invariably women, and thus fosters gender inequality.
Why the concern about mere words?
Language articulates consciousness.
Language reflects culture.
