By: Krystin Shaver

  • It is ambitious to go off and stand on your own when no one is standing by you or when you are feeling self conscious

Risks

In "from Civil Disobedience" by Henry David Thoreau he says "It has not the vitality and force of a single living man; fore a single man can bend it to his will."

Risks

Personal Experience

  • What I think he means is that sometimes people do things that they dont want to and the result can be fatal.
  • Now a days teens are faced with a lot of peer pressure making them do things that they know they shouldn't.

Rewards

In "from Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson he says in the very last sentance..."To be great is to be missunderstood."

Real World Example

  • What Emerson means is that no matter what you do or believe differently than others, people will not understand, and thats okay it's all about going out on a limb.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. was extreemly misunderstood, people all around him hated him and wanted him dead. But that didn't stop him. He succeded in breaking the hatred between black and white people.

Ending

Overall I think that nonconformity is something that everyone should have. Unless one likes to do whatever the person they are standing next does. It's good for people to express themselves and be different. Whats the point of living your own life if your not doing your own thing.
