Initial 5 questions

How did I develop my question?

Science: The Earth's plates

Geography: Views

History: Captain Patrick Logan

Civics and citizenship: local community event

Geography:Biomes

Why did I choose these questions?

  • I'd heard that the region was very diverse in environments
  • I was interested in finding out if the mountain's creation was the cause of its unique traits
  • Finally, I thought that it would be fascinating to read about others who had been to Mt Barney, since they live or lived very different lives to me and would harbour different opinions

More on how I developed my question

What I found out about these questions

1

Research

  • Mt Barney's volcanic history had a direct impact on the range of flora and fauna
  • The First settlers, Indigenous people and locals have very different opinions of Mt Barney

2

What I found interesting

Now to my actual question

How does it all come together?

Here it is

Whilst both the Indigenous groups from the pre-colonisation period and the local communities of today recognise/d the beauty and unique values of Mt Barney, the early settlers failed to realise that Mt Barney and the Scenic Rim were anything other than an excellent cattle grazing site, and introduced pest species like rabbits. How have the actions of these groups influenced their connection with Mt Barney and the environment of Mt Barney itself, and as tourists, how can we make sure to leave a respectable legacy behind?

Why it interests me

  • I got to compare 3 very different groups
  • It relates to my destination because...

The beginning of the answer

The beginning of the answer

  • The first european settlers, especially Patrick Logan showed absolutely no respect to the mountain
  • Every year, local communities host the "A World Apart" festival

The Answer: Post Program

Evidence and conclusion

Pre-research compared to on camp

  • What I had found was not necessarily what i experienced...
  • My question didnt change on camp
  • Evidence: Interviews with our guide

Pre-research compared to on camp

More on the answer

More on the answer

  • A large variety of European pest species still exist today
  • These included feral cats, dogs, pigs, rabbits and goats
  • The guy who owned the place, Innes, gave us a talk about standing up for the 'little guy', in this case the Scenic Rim
  • He told us that the Government didn't care for the environment

Final statement
