Skinner argued that language is learned. Language acquisition takes nuture, and principles of association, imitation, and reinforcment are incorporated.
Association occurs when you use things that are similar to you and have meaning to remember new words. Imitation is the idea that children imitate what they heard around them. Adults also learn new languages by imitating, such as copying pronunciation. Reinforcement is presenting praise to children after they say/use something correctly. These principles support the idea that B.F. Skinner proposed, which says that language acquisition relies on observation and is learned.
Chomsky argued that laguage is innate/in our nature and that our brain is a language acquisition device.
These two principles prove that we are born for the wiring for language. Universal language is a world language which is geographically widespread and makes it possible for people of many different backgrounds and regions of the world to communicate. Overgeneralization is when children apply a grammatical rule (like forming the past tense) in order to be able to express themselves more correctly. However, it could also be said that children overgeneralize because they encounter new patterns of speech in which they hear from other people. Therefore, overgeneralization could also be used to provide support for Skinner theory that language is learned.
