WBL REPORT

TIMELINE 2016-2020

PURPOSE

To create Work-based Learning Programs that complements the academic and cognitive development of our high school students.

Work Based Learning Opportunities

Work Based Learning Opportunities

Internship: An internship is an extension of the classroom that encourages students to apply classroom theories in a work environment. Internships may be paid or unpaid; may occur in a public, private, or non-profit organization; may result in academic credit

Job Shadowing: Created to provide opportunities to gather and research information based on a specific career pathway. This type of programming is designed to create a positive and informed interest in their career pathway, and to enhance their understanding in the “day in the life” of their chosen field.

YEAR 2016

  • Implementation of Internship program

  • Progress Report: 5 Students (1 Student Withdrawn due to Family Emergency Circumstance)
  • Internship Sites included Warrior Printing, KS Land Assets Department, KS Communications Department (Oahu), Waipa Foundation (Kauai)

YEAR 2017

  • Second Year Implementation of Internship Program

  • Progress Report: 7 students, 100% student completion of program
  • Internship Sites included 3 returning sites Warrior Printing(Oahu), KS Land Assets Department(Oahu), KS Communications Department (Oahu)
  • 3 new sites Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health o Center (Oahu), Manuhealii (Oahu)

  • Expansion of Student Group by 100% or more
  • Increase Sites to extend to Kauai & West Hawaii
  • Adding Job Shadowing Program
  • Hire Kumu (Internship & Job Shadowing) Ratio 1:20

  • Defined Full-functioning WBL Program
  • Running in both Summer Session and the 2020-2021 Academic Year
  • All Kumu and WBL Coordinator full-time and trained to run WBL programming during the year
