The people of France were happy because it meant that they had more territory. But those who didn't like the idea of imperialism didn't really have a choice because they were gonna get an expansion no matter what. The bad thing about expanding was that new diseases were to come, unnatural boundaries, and starvation due to rise of commercial crops.
The people of France were not happy with World War One because they had the highest number of mass deaths. Also the Spanish flu pandemic entered somehow in 1918 and 1919. Which led to 450,000 people dead. It was also hard for them to escape the presence of the Great war. The war affected 760,000 orphans, 600,000 widows, and 1.2 million disabled.
France plunged into a dark age occupied by Nazis with the terrible implications bombing raids, executions, deportation, murders and starvation once again. The population waited for liberation, living day by day under a control of an iron fist imposed by the collaboration of the Vichy government.

The leader of France wanted to expand into Africa because of their technology. Also, France was deeply influenced by Social Darwinism. Which was non europeans were not as developed as europeans so it was Europe's right to bring progress to the less developed people.
Propaganda played a huge role in World War One as it painted pictures of what they wanted the country to be like, to attract more people. Even though they knew the country really wasn't like how they painted it to be. Also, leader Georges Clemenceau was in support of them going into war which played a big role.
The french planned to fight on what had happened in the first world war, but with some essential differences. France had suffered massive casualties in 1914. This time around they were going to remain on the defensive in western Europe. While still mobilizing their military forces and industrial base to fight a total war.

Between 1954 and 1962 french imperialism waged a bitter colonial war to hang on to its North African colony of Algerian. Africa was most targeted for expansion because of its resources, technology, and racism. Since every European country was fighting over it they all decided it should be dived among them.
France was bound by treaty to defend Russia Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia after archduke Ferdinand's assassination. Which was the reason why the war started. They were brought into the war by a german on August 3, 1914.
France declared war on Germany when they invaded Poland in September 1939. After the Phoney war had just ended seven weeks later the germans invaded and defeated France and forced the British off the continent.
The french culture was shaped by geography and events that happened within them; which means, that after imperialism, WWI, and WWII that as affected how they changed through out the years. Christianity is the largest religion in France 60% of the citizens are christian.
The great depression affected France a lot from 1931 to about the whole decade. France had a more sufficient economy than Britain. In 1929 France seemed like a country of wealth because they trusted big companies, they also invested a little on stock exchange and put their confidence into gold.
After everything happened a new world order emerged from the wars international agreements were made with express purpose if avoiding another worldwide conflict. One eventually became the European Union. The Brussels Treaty in 11948 led to a new European-wide process.
They are doing better than they were in the past because they haven't gotten in any wars. Also, treaties that were put into place in the past are impacting them now because they have to stay at peace. Instead of making a world wide big deal about it the last time they were at war was 1942.
