Ana María was born in Santiago de Compostela 1942. At the age of 9, she moved to Madrid with her family. Later, she started to study Pharmacy. One day, her sister saw a job ad of the multinational IBM. Ana presented and she was select. She left Pharmacy and she started to work in Bull for 6 years. She returned to Galicia and in 1973 she married to her boyfriend, they had 3 children. She bought for her own family business a microcomputer. She died in 19th June, 2018.
She was take on by Bull, the first computer business of the epoch. As programmer, she wrote in COBOL and in machine code to prepare the new machines that arrived to Bull.
Ana cooperated with Shell and Barreiros. At age of 21, she was in technology fairs.
In 1969 Ana left Bull, she started to work in the Caixa de Aforros de Santiago with the most advanced machines of the time (from Philips and IBM).
She was the first female information programmer from Galicia and Spain. Ana was a pioneer in her field. Ana María even made a demonstration with two macrocomputers, one in Madrid and one in Paris, before king emeritus Juan Carlos I.
I didn’t hear of her before, what a pity.
I admire her so much. Being the first in something isn’t an easy job, especially with the continuous criticism of "sticking your nose where they don’t call you”.
