Here is Dolly's song, 9 to 5 on YouTube.
You are likely to find this song on any music platform you use.
Dolly also made 9 to 5 into a musical that has been playing on Broadway since 2008!
For God
Civil Rights
Dolly wrote the song with not only women in mind, but all minorities that face the same barriers named in the song.
For decades there had been civil rights action in the United States and she decided to use her music to contribute to change.
Dolly has many songs praising God and explaining that everything she does is for the betterment of the world.
Dolly stated that one of the reasons she chose to star in and write the lead song for 9 to 5 was because her Christian values taught her to use every opportunity to help others.
Dolly liked the themes of the movie and song, she cared very much for gender equity in the workplace.
Many of the lyrics talk about how difficult it can be to work in a system where your ideas are not respected.
Women's Empowerment
Why I chose this song
Her take on the song is funny and makes me smile. I also like that Steve Carrell makes an appearance.
Being excited, tired, and restless all at the same time can mean that I need some focus, to get into the Green Zone for the day. I find all of Dolly's music to be comforting, her voice is ethereal but powerful.
She collaborated with Pentatonix and the song is beautiful, quiet and despite the lyrics, reassuring. Here's the video.
Her call to do good with whatever skills she has is inspiring to me. I try to model that in my day to day, especially as a teacher.
Both Dolly and I care deeply about not judging others. It is important that every human feel valuable.
Since fall 2019, Dolly has been focusing on her ministry by creating new Christian music.
Here is a collaboration she did in fall 2019 with Galantis,
a Christian band from the UK.
I listen to this song on monday mornings to motivate myself. Every line in the first verse paints a picture of what my wake up looks like.
It feels nice to get ready for the week to a song that reflects what I and almost everyone else goes through before their day.
'Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come to life
Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin'
Out on the street the traffic starts jumpin'
With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5'
Like many, waking up and feeling ready for the day is hard for me at times.
Positive and motivating songs that make me feel heard help me start my day.
Dolly's stage presence is always a positive one. She is always smiling and wearing delightful colourful clothing.
Positive music that makes me feel comforted is a helpful way to begin my day. I may not always choose Dolly's music, but I know I can count on her to help make my car rides a lot more cheerful! Even on days I know are going to be busy.
Here's another sing a long I like for my car rides into school and work.
“9 to 5” was the theme song to the 1980 film Nine to Five, a story of gender inequality in the workplace. Parton starred in this film along with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
This song not only reached number one on the country charts, but also, in February 1981, reached number one on the pop and the adult-contemporary charts, giving her a triple-number-one hit. Parton became one of the few female country singers to have a number-one single on the country and pop charts simultaneously.
