Singing Posture

There are 4 types of Postures

  • flat back
  • Sway back
  • Kypholordotic
  • Optimal

When setting your posture you will want to stand tall and align your body like shown while letting your arms dangle and shoulders come down to avoid creating tension anywhere in the body.

There are there important parts of the voice that help us use it as a musical instrument

They are the:

  • Actuator
  • Resonator
  • Vibrator

Actuators

The actuator in singing is breathing and it is what activates the vocal folds making them vibrate to create our voice.

There are actuators that are in the air way and that are muscles.

Some muscle actuators are:

  • The Abdominal Muscles
  • The Diaphragm

Some Airway Actuators are:

  • The nose and mouth
  • Pharynx
  • Larynx
  • Trachea
  • Bronchi
  • Lungs

Resonators

The sound that is produced by your vocal folds is amplified by the places in your body that sound can resonate

Those places are:

  • Cavities
  • Nasal
  • Oral
  • Pharynx
  • Larynx

Vibration

Much like slowly letting air leak out of a balloon when air passes through the vocal folds the pressure from the air creates sound that allows us to sing.
