Presidential Election of 1860

On September 17, 1787, the US Constitution is signed by 39 delegates at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This is the start of the United States of America.

Pepople begin to be more and more loyal to their side of the debate. The states began care less about the other states, and more about winning the debate for thier side.

CA joined the Union as a free state and the Mexican cession territory split into 2 separate territories. The Utah territory and New Mexico territory. They couldn’t decide whether they should be free or slave states, so they settled it via popular sovereignty. The compromise also implemented a new, more strict slave fugitive law, which was that if northerners saw slaves, they had to report and return them

Abraham Lincoln was elected president with only 40% of the votes because in some places in the South Abraham Lincoln wasn't even on the ballot which just voided their votes; it eventually happened and Lincoln was considered a good president until he was assassinated.

Abraham Lincion and Douglos Scott, who had very diffrent standpoints on slavory, raced to become an Ilinois Senater. Abroham Lincion ended up winning.

The Missouri Compromise was voided after Kansas and Nebraska were unable to decide if they were free or slave. So they put the choice up for a vote by the public. This is also known as Popular Sovereignty.
