Carbohydrates

Examples of Carbohydrates

Two examples of carbohydrates are are bread and beans.

Carbohydrate

Monomers and Polymer of a Carbohydrate

The monomers of carbohydrates are glucose, fructose, and galactose. The polymers are starch and cellulose.

Characteristics and Properties of Carbohydrates

Characteristics and Properties

The characteristics and properties of carbohydrates are that they have a ratio of 1C:2H:1O. They also have enzymes necessary to break down certain carbs, this is called cellulose, humans lack this enzyme. Another thing is that simple carbs WILL dissolve in water and large carbs will NOT dissolve in water. Lastly, carbs are either classified as mono, poly, or di-sacharrides.

Functions of a Carbohydrate

The functions of carbohydrates are that it gives the cells energy. It also gives cell structure. Lastly, it is in cellulose in plant cell walls.

Functions

Lipids

Examples of Lipids

Two examples of lipids are vegetable oil and butter.

Lipids

Characteristics and Properties of Lipids

Characteristics and properties

The characteristics and properties of lipids are they are non-polar, which means they do NOT dissolve in water. There are also phospholipids which have a polar head but non-polar tail.

Functions of Lipids

Functions

Some functions of lipids are that it stores energy for later use, carbohydrates are used first than lipids. They also make steroids and hormones. Lastly, they make up the cell/plasma membrane.

Proteins

Examples of Proteins

Two examples of protein are fish and meat.

Protein

Monomers and Polymers of Proteins

The monomers of proteins are amino acids and the polymers are polypeptides.

Characteristics and Properties of Proteins

Characteristics and Properties

The characteristics and properties of proteins are that their monomers are amino acids and their polymers are polypeptides. Also, the order of their amino acids gives proteins their shape.

Functions of Proteins

Functions

Some functions of proteins are that they maintain homeostasis. Proteins also help with circulation. Next, it makes up body structures and it controls chemical reactions. All of these are also parts of homeostasis.

Nucleic Acids

Examples of Nucleic Acids

Two examples of nucleic acids are spinach and broccoli.

Nucleic Acids

The Monomers and Polymers of Nucleic Acids

The monomers of nucleic acids are nucleotides and the polymers are nucleic acids, DNA, and RNA.

Characteristics and Properties of a Nucleic Acids

Characteristics and Properties

Some characteristics and properties of nucleic acids include that their monomers are nucleotides. Their polymers are nucleic acids, DNA and RNA.

Functions of Nucleic Acids

Functions

Some functions of nucleic acids are that they make up DNA, which stores genetic information and RNA, which helps build proteins.
