The discovery of coal, iron production, the invention of the machine had an important role in drawing the lines of modern industrial civilization, that led to the use of the term modern movement in arts and architecture.

Art Nouveau ( 1890-1910)

-A French term meaning “new art”

-The style was most popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Époque period which ended with the start of World War I in 1914.

-Characterized by "sinuous lines and flowing organic shapes based on plant forms

-Inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers.

-It was a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of nineteenth century architecture and decoration.

William Morris

William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, novelist, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts & Crafts Movement.

He’s the Godfather of the art & craft movement.

Mastered every art and craft to which he set his hand, revealing in designs, patterns, colors and textures
