Education

Pillars of Success

02

  • Choose a goal to CREATE a JOURNEY
  • How do you spend your time?
  • What daily activities make you want to leap out of bed?
  • What do you want to learn?
  • Who do you want to hang out with? Talk with? Collaborate with?
  • Now, SET the goal that will create the journey you designed
  • If the goal doesn't work, CHANGE IT!
  • Your goal is there to shape your life in a way that delights you, not enslave you. If the pursuit of the goal is draining your life, then why keep it?
  • Will our renewed focus on career and technical education stimulate smart investments in ways to better prepare all young people for the future of work?
  • What do you need to do?
  • Pick the right major based on interests
  • Go out and visit facilities and shadow people that do what you want to do
  • Hang around the RIGHT people
  • SACRIFICE TIME to achieve goals
  • ACKNOWLEDGE your PASSION EARLY
  • Designing education and workforce development opportunities now that reduce the probability of economic displacement later.
  • Artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and machine learning are creating fresh possibilities to deepen and accelerate student learning.
  • Learn HOW TO NETWORK and build a LINKED IN!
  • Build solid relationships!
  • Experience will always mean more than a degree, and nothing useful will ever be learned just from sitting in a classroom
  • Borrow only as much as your entry-level salary
  • The Master's Degree is the NEW Bachelor's Degree
  • Consider the labor market payoff
  • Get a degree or a job in a field that is RECESSION PROOF
  • Evaluate whether prestige is important in your field of study
  • DO NOT RELY ON SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT TO GUIDE YOUR DECISIONS AND PATHWAY TO SUCCESS

Leadership

Pillars of Success

02

  • CARE ABOUT PEOPLE WITHOUT WORRYING WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT YOU
  • Don't try to be liked!
  • LEARN HOW TO FISH AND DON'T JUST EXPECT THINGS GIVEN TO YOU
  • BE CLEAR WITH PEOPLE FROM DAY ONE AND SET EXPECTATIONS
  • LEAD BY EXAMPLE
  • COMMUNICATE CLEARLY
  • DO WHAT 99% AREN'T DOING

Goal Setting

Pillars of Success

02

  • What do you want to MAINTAIN, IMPROVE, or CHANGE?
  • Confirm your pillars
  • SET BOUNDARIES FOR YOURSELF
  • Categorize what you want to accomplish
  • Break those into quantities, expiration dates, specific qualities, etc.
  • Make each goal as actionable as possible
  • Look at the overall characteristic of your goals collectively. Is there enough adventure and fun? Are there enough true challenges? Do these goals match the time you actually have? Do they reflect who you are and aim to be? Etc.

Strength Finder

Pillars of Success

02

  • MANAGE your Strengths
  • http://strengths.gallup.com/default.aspx
  • IMPROVE your weaknesses
  • Capitalize on your strengths and HELP OTHERS

  • FIND YOUR PASSION and try to make money from it early.

10 Rules for Success

02

  • FIND YOUR GIFT!!!!!
  • EMBRACE FAILURE - Don't let it define You!
  • Success is NOT a straight line
  • PUSH THROUGH THE DIRT
  • Dirt builds character
  • It's not always what you want. It's someone talking about you, someone spreading rumors, fake friends and all that
  • Think of yourself as soil...you have nutrients and you will grow anyway. Any seed was underground one time but grew into fruits and veggies
  • MULTIPLY your efforts

10 Rules for Success

02

  • If you want to start a business, hire people that can help you do what YOU do by times 10. Being a millionaire is not as far off as you think and being in sports and entertainment is NOT the only way!
  • SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE
  • Study partners and friends that are successful. Everyone in your circle helps the wagon move further. Some folks are on your wagon with NO VALUE
  • The ROAD to Success is ALWAYS under construction
  • JUMP!!!
  • The Dream is FREE, the HUSTLE is sold SEPARATELY

10 Rules for Success

02

  • DREAM BIG!!!!
  • If you don't JUMP, you will NEVER have the life that God has for you
  • The DREAM has to be BIGGER than the Fear
  • Face the Fear or be faced with the fact that you NEVER gave it a shot?????
  • There is NO Self-Made Man
  • You don't want to work twice as hard to get half as much
  • Ask for what you want!! JUST ASK!!
  • LEARN HOW TO FISH AND DON'T JUST EXPECT THINGS GIVEN TO YOU
  • SHARE knowledge and BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
  • One NO is ONE step closer to a YES!!

Scholarships

  • Students leave school on average with $37,000 in school debt

  • Scholarships are one of the best ways to reduce these growing costs and scholarship search platforms exist to help students find the most relevant ones

  • These platforms compile large databases of available scholarships and provide filters to allow students to maximize their searches.

  • The best scholarship search platform was Fastweb. They scored the highest out of all 17 platforms because they were the easiest to use, had the most tools, and had among the most available scholarships with the highest dollar amounts. This search engine is best for most students including high school, undergraduate, and graduate.

How do Scholarships Work?

  • Scholarships are set up exclusively for students who fit a particular profile, one that is usually in line with the mission and ideology of the sponsor organization. Those qualifications can be based on academic achievement, financial need, ethnic background, career goals, or countless other factors.

  • The scholarship and its eligibility requirements are advertised by the sponsor organization. Any student who qualifies is encouraged to apply. Once the application period is closed, a team of judges reviews each candidate and picks a winner.

  • Platforms work by Search by Category, Personalized Match by Profile, Search by Keyword, Search by Filter
  • Hide unwanted results, Save searches, Track Applications, and have Deadline alerts
