Comment

Introduction

The

Gender roles are intense and apply to all women but there are levels within these roles. Race and sexuality can also play a part in how a woman is expected to behave. In this project, I will be researching the gender expectations for White, straight females compared to Black, straight females.

Introduction

White Women

Straight White Women Sterotypes

While society likes to say that we have grown to treat men and women equally, women are constantly getting looked down upon. Laws have been passed and movements have been made but sexism goes beyond workplace wages and the right to vote. Gender roles have taught our society that women need to act or behave a certain way or they will not be respected. These gender roles can be so intense that women may start to feel that they are not worth being respected if they are not followed.

Economic Implications of Gender Roles

According to a study by Terri D Conely, “The position of White women in society is complex: They might be considered “marked” in terms of gender but “unmarked” in terms of race” (Conely 45).
