Many people worship the explorers for their remarkable discoveries... but do we know the whole story? Or are we just going along with what other people say? They stole land from other people and claimed that they "discovered" it. They wiped out civilizations with new diseases. However, they also found gold and fish, as well as remedies for other diseases. So here's the big question... Were they heroes? Or villains?
Although it is true that Explorers discovered North America (after the vikings years earlier), they still forced people from North America on to their ships to study them. They called them savages... None of these kidnapped victims even got home. They all died because they were not immune to the new diseases that the Europeans were used to. Dozens of families were wiped out because of it! The Explorers only did this because no one else would. No one else was brave enough to come with the explorers. 80-95% of natives were killed by
European diseases. Why do we support
them?

Despite the explorers mistakes, they still discovered many places that are very important to history. For example, Hudsons Bay. Henry Hudson sacrificed his life for the benefits of his country. The explorers discovered mountains of fish and gold. They found civilizations of natives who gave them cures for many terminal diseases. They gave unemployed men jobs. Brought back their king
mountains of gold. They were the heroes of their time period!
The cases have been made. You've seen both sides of the story... What do you think? Are they Heroes or villains? Your choice...
