  • LBJ signs into law Civil Rights Act of 1964
  • Makes discrimination based on Race, Religion, National Origin or Sex Illegal in public places
  • Includes anything that gets funds from government (like schools)

  • Upon crossing a bridge marchers were violently beat and many ran for their lives on national TV
  • Johnson soon called for voting rights changes
