The ships never saw each other. Their massive losses is why this is marked as the turning point, putting Japan on defense.
Robert Oppenheimer created the atomic bomb which we dropped on Hiroshima. Three days later the U.S bombed Nagasaki. A month later Japan surrenders because of how signifigant and destructive the atomic bomb was.
