Air Superiority

Air Superioity

"That degree of dominance in the air battle of one force over another that permits the conduct of operations by the former and its related land, sea, and air forces at a given time and place without prohibitive interference by the opposing force."

A.S. in Relation to China

A.S.

in

Relation

to China

Numbers are important.

U.S. has spent 19 Trillion for D.o.D. since the Cold War

China has spent 3 Trillion for the PLA

Aircraft Numbers--

U.S. Fighter/Attack 2221 plus 5th gen

China: 700 4th gen fighters, no 5th Gen "allegedly"

New Aircraft in devolpment to stay ahead

Comand and Control

The exercise of authority and direction by a properly designated commander over assigned and attached forces in the accomplishment of the mission.

CC

Employed

The US Third Fleet commander told reporters that the United States has 10 nations participating in military exercise while the number of nations participating in China’s exercises is probably less than two. A Chinese attack on the United States will result in direct intervention of NATO under Article V as seen during the 2001 Afghanistan War.

Rapid Global Mobility

The US military has 516 installations in 41 countries and bases in more than 80 countries. The United States spends $156 billion on 800 bases in foreign countries, while China’s defense budget is US $180 billion/year

Rapid Global Mobility

Mobility Guardian

Employed

AMC’s largest full-spectrum readiness exercise to date. Forty-six U.S. aircraft will join aircraft from 29 international partners, along with more than 4,000 U.S. and international Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps aviators.

Global Strike

Global Strike

Global strike includes the nuclear deterrent force. Two legs of the nuclear triad—bombers and land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs)—are Air Force missions. The Air Force is modernizing the bomber fleet, and a large-scale modernization of the ICBM force is also underway.

Global strike and China

Global stike

and China

The USAF has deployed F-15, F-16, and F-22 fighter aircraft; B-1 and B-2 bombers; and air-refueling aircraft at Guam. The USAF Rapid Raptor program can globally deploy F-22s anywhere in the world within 24 hours

ISR

Gathering Intel on our Adversairies to better understand how they think and to better employ our power against them.

ISR

Employed

A USAF RC-135 was intercepted by a Chinese Fighter in the South China Sea. While the intel field keeps the material behind closed doors, it is more than safe to assume that a reconnaissance airplane was utilizing its platform

More ISR

A bright spot for the U.S. is balloons that may help track and deter hypersonic weapons being developed by China and Russia.

Unity of Effort

USAF

DoD - Army

Unity of effort is coordination and cooperation toward common objectives, even if the participants are not necessarily part of the same command or organization, which is the product of successful unified action. To accomplish unity of effort, forces use both a whole-of-government and a comprehensive approach.

Unity of

Effort

DOD

Unity of

Effort China

China is not seeking conflict with the United States, primarily because its three core national interests—regime survival, social order, and economic growth—are best served by a peaceful and stable international environment

Adversarial

Adversarial and Adversarial non- Response

It is possible that China could target Guam with its small fleet of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). However, the use of ICBMs will lead to massive retaliatory strikes by the United States leading to total annihilation of China’s military and economic centers of gravity. The USN Maritime Strike Tomahawk Cruise Missile Block V will destroy coastal cities like Shanghai, obliterating China’s hi-tech industries in a matter of hours.

Non-adversarial Response

Non-adversarial

Balloon Warfare

The PRC has claimed publicly that the high-altitude balloon operating above the United States is a weather balloon that was blown off course. This is false," the official said. "This was a PRC surveillance balloon. This surveillance balloon purposely traversed the United States and Canada, and we are confident it was seeking to monitor sensitive military sites.

Counter

The balloon fell approximately six miles off the coast in about 47 feet of water after being shot by F-22

"The USAF has deployed F-15, F-16, and F-22 fighter aircraft; B-1 and B-2 bombers; and air-refueling aircraft at Guam.22 The USAF Rapid Raptor program can globally deploy F-22s anywhere in the world within 24 hours. The USAF has 44 missile interceptors in concrete silos in Alaska and California. The United States is also constructing the next-generation stealth B-21 bomber, which will complete its maiden flight in 2022. The B-21 will be equipped with the next-generation long-range standoff stealth nuclear cruise missile and the JASSM-ER conventional cruise missile."

Suggestions

"Our Airmen must be multi-capable and adaptable team builders, as well as innovative and courageous problem- solvers, and demonstrate value in the diversity of thought, ingenuity, and initiative. We must develop leaders with the appropriate tools to create and sustain an environment in which all Airmen can reach their full potential, valuing the many aspects of diversity within our Air Force." Accelerate change or lose

Suggestions

"Station additional KC-135/KC-46 tankers at Eielson/Elmendorf, establishing Air Force mobility capability for rapid deployment of fighters and bombers." - Belmonte

- “This test launch reinforces what our allies and partners already know: We’re always ready to defend the United States with combat-ready nuclear forces anytime, anywhere, on order, to conduct global strike.” - AFGSC head Gen Thomas Bussiere

Cyberspace

Cyberspace

China is an enduring strategic challenge that is now global in scope.

Beijing is exerting influence worldwide through its rising diplomatic, informational, military, and economic power.

China is a challenge unlike any other we have faced. I have therefore created a China Outcomes Group under joint USCYBERCOM and NSA leadership to ensure proper focus, resourcing, planning, and operations to meet this challenge

Extra Cyber stuff

Since 2018, the CNMF has deployed hunt forward teams 40 times to 21 countries to work on 59 networks, generating insights and imposing costs on common adversaries.

These partner-enabled operations have exposed malicious cyber activity by China, Russia, Iran and cyber criminals; made partner-nation networks more secure; increased our global cybersecurity partnerships; led to the public release of more than 90 malware samples for analysis by the cybersecurity community and ultimately kept us safer here at home.

Military show of force against Taiwan--

China’s military sent warships and several dozen warplanes toward Taiwan in a large-scale exercise that simulated sealing off the island in an attempt at intimidation in response to the Taiwanese president’s trip to the U.S. recently.
