ESSENTIAL QUESTION

Essential Question

How can the development of envy and jealousy between two loved ones lead to the tragic downfall of a once-prosperous relationship?

"Journey to the Suffering Land"

Original Poem

I have journeyed to the suffering land,

a land of washed up dreams and of false love.

Alas, with the flash from my lover’s hand,

the reign of ecstasy was disposed of.

Oh, dreams of life in pink do sound so swell

but on the mountain of love, a push and shove

did lead me to the very depths of hell.

There, I suffered for an infinity,

and learned that envy strikes all like a spell.

It ravages kind masculinity,

swallows up kingdoms of lust like quicksand,

and takes from lovers their sanguinity.

The demon filched my true love on command

I have journeyed to the suffering land.
