BUSINESS IMPACT

The coronavirus has made a dent in the global economy.

A new study shows that the coronavirus could impact more than 5 million businesses worldwide, CNBC reports.

Apple is one of those. The retailer, which relies heavily on Chinese factories and consumers, announced on Feb. 18 that it was cutting sales forecasts for this quarter as a result of the coronavirus.

The virus has severely impacted supply chains in China and the global companies that rely on them, including automakers, toy manufacturers and big-box retailers.

In earnings reports, coronavirus has become a recurring theme:

A FactSet report analyzing 364 earnings calls from Jan 1 through Feb 13 found that

38% of the calls mentioned “coronavirus.”
