Ancient Mesopotamia

Mesopotamia

Ancient Mesopotamia has been through many rulers In the beginning there were people who ruled like small kings, but not as much as you will see after this! These people were in Sumer they were ruled by kings and priests. These states grew in time the more important people lived safe inside the cities safe mud walls. The less important people lived outside and were near the two rivers that surrounded the city states they are the Tigris river and the Euphrates river. They often flooded though and destroyed their crops. The good thing was that the Sumerians were genius inventors so they used dams and levees to stop the water from flooding and when it was very dry they irrigated to have water for their crops.

Unfortunately fighting over water made the city states get into a war. The reason we know this is because they had a language called Cuneiform

After fighting a certain war lord won and began his rule, Ancient Sumer became the Akkadian Empire. The new king’s name was Sargon.Though lets go to the beginning. He had biographical writing in cuneiform and he had said he had never met his father because his mother could not support a child so she put him in a basket in put him in the Euphrates river and a man named Akki found him Akki was the gardener for the king and from that notorious moment he would grow up to rule the Akkadian empire. Not much is known about his life. We do know he became a cup bearer and gained the kings trust. Soon he was only second to the king. The kings trust to Sargon was tested when a fellow king went around conquering other cities and came to capture theirs the reason of capturing all the cities is because of water and land. The king had grew suspicious about Sargon so he sent him to the invading army coming with a peace treaty it actually had nothing about peace but it said to kill Sargon upon receiving it but the invading king didn’t and offered Sargon the join him and he said yes. So they invaded the city and easily took over the city. The former king escaped. Not everything was known about what happened but Sargon and the king became enemies and took their two armies and fought and Sargon won and became king. He then had two children and a few years later they took over because Sargon was very old and his sons became old enough for Sargon to accept that they would take control. After the sons lost control a new king took full command his name was Hammurabi!

Now Hammurabi was in command and he was famous for his giant amount of rules and rules and rules! All the people thought they had no flaws because they thought he was elected by the gods but the rules had many flaws because one rule was that if someone killed your son or daughter you could kill their son or daughter. So it was like an eye for an eye. Does that seem fair to you? Think what a world would be like if it was today!

Egypt

A. Egypt

You Will Learn about Pharaohs in this section!

The reason there were pharaohs is because they were like the rulers and the people who made the laws and upholded them. They were often buried and they were put in pure gold sarcophagus often adorned with jewels.

One of the most famous Pharaohs is Pharaoh Tut he is famous because he was pharaoh since he was 9 and he also is famous because his sarcophagus is the least intact. Some cool things about pharaohs is that they had slaves build giant places so they can rest well in the after life. The pharaohs were also both religious and the political in Egypt. The Egyptians had thought of the pharaohs of half man half god. The pharaohs son also often went through training to be a good pharaoh. Though in some cases girls or women became the pharaohs.

Here in this section you will learn about pyramids.

The main reason for building the pyramids is because they were tombs for the pharaohs that ruled the land.

Did you know that slaves did NOT build the pyramids rather farmers after they could not longer farm for whatever reason they were actually paid indicating they were not slaves. They discovered graves of workers who died during construction it was clear they were honored if they were slaves they would not be honored at all.

Did you know there is a pyramid called the bent pyramid because it is tilted by 43 degrees! The pyramid was at it’s height during the 4th to 6th dynasties. Though after the 6th dynasties smaller pyramids were built but the more bigger pyramids were only build during the height. Though unfortunately these pyramids were not able to protect the kings and queens who built them because they were constantly being raided by grave robbers.

Here in this section you will learn about the Egyptians and how they lived in the desert.

One of the reasons that they were able to live in the barren desert is because of the red land that covered all sides of Egypt.(The Egyptians called the desert the red land) It acted as a natural border to protect Egypt from invaders. Another way the Egyptians survived is because the Nile river. The reason is because they could fish from the river and they could transport heavy objects across on boats to make it so they could put heavy things place to place. The river also flooded so it gave fertile mud to grow crops. The Egyptians called land around the Nile the black land and when the annual Nile floods receded the land around the Nile turns black. That is why they called it by the name black land.

Ancient Rome

ANCIENT ROME

Here you will learn about the coliseum in this section!

The coliseum was used to host entertainment such as public executions, wild animal hunts, and gladiator fights! It was used for these reasons to 80 CE to 404 CE. The building was part of a huge construction to restore Rome to it’s former glory after the fighting in the recent civil war. The coliseum was a masterpiece some traits were, that it could hold 50,000 spectators, a roofed awning of canvas, an oval arena measuring 87.5 M by 54.8 M, a width of 189 x 156 meters, a height of 45 meters high (150 feet), it was also four stories high!

Emperors

Here in this section you will learn about Emperors!

The first Emperor was Augustus though he never claimed the title for himself. Augustus pushed Rome to the road of republic to empire! How he got to be emperor is after the assassination of Julius Caesar he then went to fight Julius Caesars opponents and won. The reason he fought Julius Caesars enemies is because Julius was his great-uncle and adoptive father! Now Augustus started to combine the might of the military, institution building, and law making to become the only ruler of Rome wile laying the foundations for the 200 year Pax Romana, which means Roman peace, and that empire Augustus started an empire that lasted for almost 1,500 years!

Now who was the last Roman Emperor? The man name was Romulus Augustus! The person who takes him down is Odoacer, a German barbarian who says he is the king of Italy. Odoacer was a mercenary leader inside the Roman Imperial army when he attacked the young emperor. At Piacenza, he defeated Roman General Orestes, the emperor’s father and then took the capital of the WESTERN empire, though the Roman rule continued in the east, Odoacer’s crowning marked the end of the original Roman Empire!
