There are seven themes of Catholic Social Teachings.
The Seven themes are Life and Dignity for the Human Person, Call to Family, Community, and Participation, Rights and Responsibilities, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable, the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers, Solidarity, and Care for God’s Creation
Solidarity is the call to be one human family, regardless of our gender, race, economic differences, ethnicity, or beliefs.
In today's society prejudices and segregation are rampant. We need to stand up for those who are not being treated with justice. We need to stop being so concerned about ourselves and start wondering how we can serve others.
Solidarity "is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good; that is to say to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all" (John Paul II)
You can help by treating everyone with love and kindness, getting rid of hatred, and reminding others to do the same
The community help by helping the elderly, mentally ill, homeless, and minorities. By setting up soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
In today's society access to world news is easier than ever. We can be aware of the problems and create websites to help donate to the cause or tell others how to help.
With all the new ways to travel and message people, ecumenism talks have now opened up between religious leaders. Things such as airplanes and phones have extended communication among the leaders. Unity in the Catholic Church might soon happen because we are able to communicate. One thing that is essential to ecumenism is understanding another person's beliefs and what their church teaches. With the internet it is now easier than ever to learn about other religions.
