Battling the Aliens

Eukaryote or Prokaryote?

Part 1

We concluded that the alien cell is a eukaryote cell. This is based on the that fact it has a true nucleus and has membrane-bound organelles such as the mitochondria, chloroplasts, and a rough endoplasmic reticulum.

Animal or Plant Cell?

Part 2

The alien cell resembles a plant cell because of certain organelles identified after examination. The alien cell contained chloroplasts and cell walls, organelles exclusive to plant cells. The presence of these organelles distinguishes the cell as a plant cell. The only differentiating organelle that isn't present in the alien cell is the large vacuole but 2/3 differentiators means the cell is more plant than animal.

Claim

Our team agrees that we should not use the serum produced by Biocorp Nanotechnology.

Claim

Reasoning

Based on the findings from part 2, we are told that the aliens are more plant cells than animal cells. Because the serum increases the power of plant cells, we shouldn't use it on the aliens.

Missing Organelles

Other thoughts

The alien cell has been evaluated as a plant cell, though it is missing micro-tubules and a vacuole. The vacuole can be missing because the organism doesn't rely on osmotic pressure to hold itself up and the organism can get water on its own without needing to hold it. The micro-tubules can be missing because the cell wall also helps provide structure.
