Why do we need a government?

What is a government?

- A government is a person or a group of people who have the power to rule over other people within a specific area of land according to the law.

- A government may rule over a community, a village or a city, a country like Egypt, or even a continent like Australia.

- Every country in the world has a form of government that has the power to rule with laws and orders.

- Other governments rule smaller areas, such as cities or villages, to operate under the main government.

Why do we need a government?

- Governments make laws and regulations, and punish illegal actions to make sure that people are following the laws.

- Governments print money, and collect taxes.

- Governments have diplomats who have the power and authority to communicate with other governments around the world to solve international problems or to achieve business development.

- Governments usually have a military, or armed forces, to protect the country.

Types of government

Democracy

- Began by the ancient Greeks, democracy allows citizens tخخخخخخهخخ participate in the creation of their government.

- Citizens are able to vote for delegates from political parties, which are associations or groups of individuals with similar ideas of how a nation or areas should be ruled and governed.

- Candidates who get the most votes sit on councils, like Parliament or congress.

- Popular democracy is the most widely recognized sort of government in the western world.

Monarchy ( Kingdom)

-A Monarchy is a government controlled by a ruler who acquires his/her position from a royal family, with leadership passed from a parent to another family member.

- There are two types of monarchy: absolute monarchy, where the ruler has no restrictions on his/her powers, or constitutional monarchy, where the ruler is guided by a constitution.

- A dictatorship is ruled by one person, a dictator, who has supreme power over the people in the country, and is not stopped by any laws or constitutions.

- Imperialism is the policy of extending the power of a country outside its lands by force to get power and wealth.

- The land controlled through imperialism is called an empire.

- One of the most famous empires was the Roman Empire. The Roman emperor took land from other regions to make the empire larger

- Governments tax citizens to collect money that is needed to provide goods and services for the welfare of the people.

- A tax is a cost imposed by the government that is used to cover public expenditures.

- Government expenditures may include:

  • Education
  • Healthy
  • Military
  • Electricity and water

What Are the types of tax?

- Sales Tax:

This is a tax placed on any sold product.

- Income Tax:

This is a percentage of money charged for what people earn from their jobs

- Property Tax:

This is a cost people who own a home or land should pay
