June 9th!

Ms. Hoffman

Grade 7

Tuesday

Zoom: We are zooming today at 1:30 and on Thursday. If you have a second device, bring it for our kahoot game... if not, open a second 'window'. It works best in chrome.

We begin a new math unit today. It's a quick unit :-)

Yesterday was the end of Grade 7 History. Today we flip back to Science for our last unit. Three weeks will do it.

Language

language/pathways

Please continue the Language/Pathways assignment that Mrs. Baglole posted yesterday in the Language forum. These are great hands-on activities and insteresting because they are about YOU! The lessons they are delivering will lead into the activities that they will present to you in Grade 8!

Measurement - Converting Metric Units

Today and tomorrow we are going to review what you have learned up to Grade 7.

First.... look at the picture. Do you remember what unit goes where on the 'staircase'? Try to fill it in as much as possible from memory. You can download and do it online, print and complete, or create your own.

Second.... watch the first video. It is a refresher on the concepts of metric conversion. This is a more difficult way of converting, but accurate/proper. I would have reviewed this in class before moving forward.

Third.... watch the second video. It should also be mostly review. It is the 'easy' way to convert metric units. This video does move fast, but it is review so that should be ok. If you need more, watch it again and as often as necessary. It mentions that up to Grade 6 you only use the Kilo, base unit, centi, and milli units. In Gr. 7 we look at all the different mesaurement units. One thing I didn't like about this video is how they treated decimal numbers that were less than one. In that case, make sure to put a zero in front of the decimal (for example, write 0.342 NOT .342).

Finally.... fill in any units on the picture that you didn't at the beginning. No other assignment today :-)

Today we are going to begin our Heat unit. Just like structures, we are going to use D2L as our platform for learning. The unit has many activities/games to make it more exciting for you. Please work through Activity 1 today and tomorrow.

There is a lot of overlap between this unit and our Pure Substances and Mixture unit. Firstly, and most importantly, the Heat unit heavily relies on the concepts of the Particle Theory that you learned about previously.

I used to have many very exciting hands-on labs for this unit, but alas, due to safety measures, I'm not able to use them, even if we were in the classroom. It means that this unit was a lot of theory and not lab work; sadly! However, rest assured that you will be presented with many opportunities in high school through various labs to explore heat concepts.

ps. I'm still looking forward to seeing pictures of your chair or other structure!

Reminder

Reminder

Today is the last opportunity for your parent to pick up your belongings at the school. All belongings must be picked up by 11:15 a.m. today. If you parent is unable to pick up your belongings by then, I suggest you/they send me a message with suggestions as to what you/they would like done with your things.

I still have some of your art work that I will give back to you in September.

Please keep in mind that Mlle. did post your weekly French work yesterday and it is due Friday. These are important and will serve to help you in French in Grade 8!!! Also, Mr. Hui posted your Religion assignment last Thursday, due for this Thursday.

Time management

Time management

This is how what I suggest for today...

Keeping in mind that for Grade 7 you should be doing approx 2-2.5 hours a day (that will change based on the assignments in a day, but it's a daily average):

Tuesday

* 1/2 hour language/pathways

* 1/2 hour math

* 1 hour science

* 1/2 hour french or religion
