Jacob Scharp's

Co-Cultures

Gen-Z (Zoomer)

What being part of Gen-Z means to me

One with technology

Driving current culture and trends

Gen Z

Highly communicative but low social IQ

High emotional awareness

Focused on our effect on the world

What this means to me

My generation has only known the world of high communication with phones at all of our finger-tips. This has had a stark affect on all of our lives. I have never had to worry about getting lost, not being able to call my parents or friends, or not be able to figure out how to fix or create something. This has specifically nurtured my ability and will to work with my hands all of my life.

Mid-Western

High farm/Blue collar culture

Kind and willing to help

Make our own fun

Mid-Western

Family and Tradition oriented

What this means to me

I have come from a blue-collar and tradition family where I have adopted much of my previous family's beliefs and tradition. In the Midwest there isn't a whole lot to do other than nature parks and stuff you make up on your own property. Much of my life for fun was only spent outside playing with fire, bikes, and building many different structures. In short we make our own entertainment and that has shaped me like many others who live here.

My Job

Think outside of the box/creatively to build and correct

Perfection is nearly impossible but beautiful

Welding

High context communication

Blunt and rough around the edges

Welding and communication

How this effects my communication

I wouldn't say welding has effected the way I communicate yet. The main reason is because the blunt and harsh nature of the environment and communication would be considered rude anywhere else. I strive to leave that side of me at work because I know how that feels when I first started welding.

The Car Community

Tight knit group of individuals

Many different subcultures from Japanese to European to American and trucks

Car Community

Sometimes judgmental and out casting

All outgoing and seeking for help

Cars and Commutation

My Communication

The car community can be extremely rewarding but also extremely toxic. To focus on the positives the whole community in general is supportive of everyone and their builds because everyone understands what its like for their own baby. When people share a very outward trait or hobby it makes it 100x easier to approach people and start conversation. This definitely has made me more outgoing.

Lutheran

Heavy on tradition and family

Focus on self research and discovery

Lutheran

Tight knit and supportive community

High-Context Community

Lutheran Communication

Effects on Communication

The Lutheran community has always been outgoing and kind to most everyone in it. That is because it is a high-context community with a general understanding that all who believe in Jesus as their Savior are saved this means all the people in this community are acting on goodwill out of thanks for this fact.
