As I stand amazed by the fact that the first quarter has passed by so fast, I can only look forward with excitement what the next quarters will bring.
How fast time is passing by brings me to the realization that we need to seize every opportunity and keep looking for the positive sides of every challenge.
The first quarter has brought its fair share of ups and downs and it has become evident that giving up is not a possibility as a Local President.
I therefore stay focused and ready to embrace the upcoming lessons to be learned while enjoying the ride and being grateful for all that this amazing organization is offering during this one year to lead.
JCI Willemstad had a productive first quarter, so keep on following us to see what we have coming up.

And with working they really meant working hard even if it is on New Year's Day!
For more than 30 years JCI Willemstad has the privilege of placing the first-born baby of the new year in Curaçao in the spotlights. This is done together with sponsors such as Freeport Jewelers, Ennia, Manrique Capriles, Highlights, Superkidz, Salas Sportshop and Pietersz Distribution.
On January 1, 2019, a beautiful baby boy by the name of Mar-Arjit Kwidama was born at 12.06 in Sint Elisabeth Hospital. He weighs 3.800 grams and is 50 cm long.

Dun'un man, gan'un kurason!
Besides working on projects, JCI Willemstad also likes to do volunteering and eventually giving back to the community.
This is why on March 16, JCI Willemstad together with JCI UC volunteered at Huize Tabitha situated at Grote Berg. It was a spa day for the elders and eventually we put a smile on their faces. It was a fun, fruitful and successful day.

On March 27, our 2019 JCI VP, Alejandra Castillo Saavedra, visited Curaçao and JCI Willemstad hosted her in the morning. We welcomed her at the airport together with the JCI Dutch Caribbean National President, Dupal Persaud.
After her arrival, we quickly went to CBA for an interview regarding JCI Willemstad, JCI International and the projects that we are currently working on.
After a successful interview we went to Chamber of Commerce where we discussed possible future partnership that we may have.
Just to have a taste of how Curaçao looks like, our member Ricky Renfrum gave a small tour in the city.
Finally, after a long day, we went to have a delicious lunch at Komedor Krioyo.

For the year 2019, the board will highlight each quarter one member who showed outstanding commitment to the chapter. For the first quarter this member is Sulmahine Kwidama.
She brought one organization to our attention who is currently the biggest sponsor for our project Adopt a School. She also wrote a great article about the Economy for our Facebook page and came up with the topic of the third GMM.
Congratulations Sulmahine Kwidama.
