According to The Bark Blog, the first recorded cyberbullying case was in 2007. 13-year-old Megan Meier committed suicide after her neighbors made a fake MySpace account to taunt and harass her. This case led to lawsuits and new laws to prevent cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying is extremely serious, people can lose their lives and loved ones to something like this.
Being the cause of a cyberbullying incident can lead to different types of punishments depending on the severity of the case.
Consequences of being a cyberbully can be getting expelled from school and even go to jail.
Social Media was made for friends and family to share photos with each other in a judgement free zone. In today's soceity there is constant judgement and bullying.
On different social media platforms there should be a button to report users that have used that app to harrass and hurt others.
Bringing awareness to something so difficult can show that this huge issue is not the end of the world and ending bullying can stop the long term emotional and social effects.
Treat others with respect and dignity:
Treating others with respect means to listen and observe their thoughts and ideas, even if you disagree or hold a different view point, without judgement.
Treating others with dignity means to allow them to express their opinions and have a calm rationale discussion without attacking their character even if you disagree with their position.
Having strict rules to eliminate cyberbullying would show victims that bullying is not the end of the world.
Social Media and other internet platforms should be used to radiate positivity.
Cyberbullying is extremely serious, bullies will use the internet and social media to harass others, but will you do the same or will you use your favorite social media platform to radiate positivity?
