100 Languages

- Children have extreme potentials; they have many ways to express, to think, and to understand

- The school's job is not to steal these languages ("They tell the child: to discover the world already there and of the hundred, they steal ninety-nine")

Connection to ECE

- Malaguzzi's Reggio Emilia approach was the product of the WWII and the strong opposition to fascism

- Parents wanted to make sure their children could think for themselves so they do not obey blindly to a political ideology (i.e., fascism)

- Children are the subject of rights

- Parents are central to learning

- Learning happens through collaboration (participating, discussing with others, being in relationship with others)

- Documentation / observation makes learning "visible"

Connection to Kindergarten

- Documentation is the key in a successful kindergarten classroom where children dictate their learning and the teacher use the observation / documentation as a guide to extend their learning

- The role and involvement of parents in education

- Children can express their learning in many ways (e.g., speaking, through a form of arts, play)

- Children learn collaboratively - among each other and with teachers
