Main Idea & Themes

This poem discusses the differences between the Australian and Chinese culutre in reference to the moon. Ouyang Yu believes that Australians don't appreciate the moon as much as the Chinese do. According to Chinese history, the moon is the carrier of human emotions, symbolising gentleness and brightness. This year the Chinese moon festival was held on the 4th of October. For these reasons Ouyang Yu displays his belief that China is culturally richer than Australia in the structure of a poem.
