1770 was the year that a fleet of 11 ships arrived in Australia, On august 22nd. Since then Australia’s culture from then to now is very much divergent, Athletisum first came to Australia, in 1810 where the first cricket, horse racing and sailing sports began to increase in popularity. Creating the start of Australian’s love of sport.

There are different types of horse racing, few examples include, harness racing, cross country, flat racing and steeplechasing. But the biggest form of racing is flat racing.

One of the biggest components in racing is the betting side of things, In 2015 a study showed that almost a million Aussies regularly bet on horse racing. 100,000 dollars are lost every year, back in the great depression betting on Phar Lap saved families.

Phar Lap - Phar Lap was Born in Newzealand, but trained and raced in Australia. Phar Lap is known as a champion, Phar Lap has won 66,000 in prize money for his owners, and won 36 cups including once in the melbourne cup, Phar Lap has one of the biggest hearts, it is at the national museum of Australia at canberra.

Black Caviar - Black Caviar is undefeated in 25 races, and won close to 8 million dollars in prize money. Blac Caviar was named WTRR world champion 4 years in a row! Black Caviar retired in 2013 on april 17th

Horse racing is one of the oldest of all sports and its basic concept has undergone minim no change over the centuries. It developed from a contest of speed or stamina between two horses into a spectacle involving large fields of runners, to electronic monitoring equipment, and immense sums of money, but its essential feature has always been the same first rule of horse racing is the horse that finishes first is the winner.
