What I learned
Patience
I am an impatient person. Doing arrangements meant standing and bending and holding. I learned how to not get frustrated and breathe through my work.
Maturity
Topic
I had to be mature in the market I was in. Most floral shops are run by adults. In high school I sold through my high school’s shop but I took care of all of my own sales. I was not taken seriously when I first began booking but as time went on I learned how to deal with people.
Drive
Topic
I did jobs that required me to work hours and days continuously. On my feet and using my hands for hours at a time. I would work for hours, walking back and forth between my workstation and the floral fridge. My job brought me a lot of joy and I didn’t even consider it work.
Self Expression
I have never been good at art; painting or drawing, playing an instrument. By creating arrangements I was creating art. I loved what I did and was very proud of myself and my work.
Self Care
I liked what making arrangements so much I would often not take breaks and found myself quickly overworked and stressed out. I learned how to take breaks and take care of myself without feeling like I wasn't getting work done.
