Canada's Role in WW2

Battle of the Atlantic (1939 - 1945)

The Italian Campaign (1943 - 1945)

The Defence of Hong Kong (1941)

Who was involved: Allied powers: United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Norway Axis and United States VS Germany and Italy.

Where did it take place: Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Irish Sea, Labrador Sea, Gulf of St. Lawrence, Río de la Plata, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Arctic Ocean and Outer Banks.

Why did it happen: The Allied forces and Germany and Italy both wanted control of the Atlantic Ocean. The Allies wanted to continue to ship men and supplies between North Amarica and Europe. The Germans wanted to stop that.

How did it end: German surendered and the Allies won. Germans surrendered on May, 7 1945. The Allies had to many people, the Germans figured they couldn't win and gave up.

Who was involved: Allied powers: Italy, France, United Kingdom and United States VS Central powers: Austria-hungary and German empire.

Where did it take place: Italy and Sicily.

Why did it happen: The Allies wanted to attack Italy, to get Germany to send soldiers to Italy. Which would weakin Germanys army that was currently fighting in the Eastern Front against the Soviet Union.

How did it end: The Allies removed German and Italian soldiers from Sicily.

Who was involved: United Kingdom, India, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Canada.

Where did it take place: Hong Kong and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Why did it happen: Britain was scared that Japan was going to attack Hong Kong. Britain sent Canadian soldiers to Hong Kong hoping that Japan wouldn't attack Hong Kong. But it didn't work and they attacked anyways.

How did it end: Hong Knog surrendered and Japan won. Hong Kong surrendered, Christmas day, 1941. Japan had more people and more experience in combat.

Who was involved: United States, other Allied nations, Canada and United Kingdom.

Where did it take place: Normandy Shores.

Why did it happen: Germany was taking over Europe. The Allies went to Normandy to help the European countries fight Germany.

How did it end: Germans were removed from the northwestern France.

Who was involved: Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Czechoslovakia, France, Canada, Balgium, United States, Britian, Germany and South Africa.

Where did it take place: In the sky above Britain.

Why did it happen: Germany defeated France and wanted Britain to want a peace settlement, but because they didn't they continued to fight.

How did it end: The Royal Air Force won, the German Luftwaffe couldn't go into the Royal Air Forces air space.

Who was involved: United Kingdom, United States, France, Poland, Canada and Czechoslovakia.

Where did it take place: French costal port of Dieppe.

Why did it happen: Britian soldiers wanted to bring Germany soldiers to Dieppe to test their own army's ability.

How did it end: It lasted 9 hours and more than half of the Allies army was killed, captured or wounded.
