Political Realignments in the 1960s

Democrats

Democrats quickly came and stood by the side of African Americans. They fought for the civil rights because Republicans failed to do so. Democrats represented the New Left liberals and the minorities. African found more of a reason to side with democrats since they were fighting harder for them.

Most Republicans were white Southerners who switch from conservative Democrats to well, Republicans. They liked it only their way. They had an older mindset where they didn't fancy African Americans as much. The Black community was seen as an outcast among the white folks.

Liberals

Liberals were almost if not exctly the same as democrats. They wanted to support equality for everyone, not only white people. Just like democrats, many African Ammericans became Liberals. Liberals were once again fighting harder than Republicans for their rights and opportunities.

MLK Jr. was a proud liberal who led his people towards a better future.

Conservatives where just like Republicans, they both wanted to keep things ow they were. They wanted white supremecy and didn't really want to work towards equality and African American rights. Most of the Conservatives population was made up of Southerners.
