Intro:

Intro

-This is a theory that psychologist use to explain why some people are more prone to development of mental health disorders

-The Stress-model is broken down into 3 parts:

-Diathesis

-Stress

-Protective factors

Diathesis:

-This demonstrates your genetic vulnerability to developing mental health disorders

Ex-Grandma and Aunt both had depression, this leads to you automatically having a higher risk of developing depression

Diathesis

Stress:

- Theses are physical or emotional factors that can accelerate the progression of developing a mental health disorder

Ex:

-Emotion- PA school stress

-Physical- Illness or malnourished

Protective Factors:

- These are factors that help delay and inhibit the acceleration of developing a mental health disorder

-Ex: Support symptoms from families/friends and physical exercise
