- The story starts in the streets of Venice.
- We can see Bassanio, a poor noble, asking to his friend Antonio to borrow him money because he has fallen in love with Portia who is a very beautiful and rich Venetian heiress. Bassanio needs this money to have access to Portia's father test.

Although their wives were the lawyers they didn't know it, so with the act of not giving them the ring they showed fidelity.
