5.6. Breaking the Cycle

How do we break the cycle? Effective and inexpensive ways to deal with the cycle of infection and malnutrition do exist and they include:

Good nutrition

Hygiene and food safety

Learning to cope with problems of HIV

Treatment of infections

Learning to cope with stress

Exercise

Getting enough rest

Good nutrition means eating foods that daily supply your body with all the nutrients you need. Not only do you need enough energy, but also proteins, vitamins, minerals and lots of water. The right balance of these nutrients promotes general health and wellbeing. These are various reasons why good nutrition is important for someone with HIV/AIDS. It is important that you know these reasons in order to motivate the people you will be working with.
