The Media?

  • What is the media?
  • Originally, newspaper, magazines, radio, TV & film.

  • Now, we have all of this in our hands.
  • Smartphone, social media, blog posts, pod-casts, YouTube channels, independent films etc.

  • Why is it exciting? Ever-changing.

  • Need young people!

  • This afternoon - practical session will take place

  • We will watch films and TV episodes.

Task: Code of Conduct

1. Individually, write down what you think should be expected of yourself throughout the Level 2 Course.

In addition, write down what should expect of me, as your teacher, throughout the course.

(3-minutes)

2. In groups of four, discuss what you have written down and create a master list.

(5-minutes)

3. Each group recommends at least three expectations/rules.

Structure

  • Qualification: UAL Level 2 in Creative Media & Digital Technology

  • Course finishes in July 2020

  • Can achieve Pass, Merit or Distinction

  • At least a Merit to progress to Level 3

Units

  • You'll complete 8 units over the academic year:

  • Unit 1: Creating a Music Video
  • Unit 2: Documentary Film
  • Unit 3: Film Poster & Advertisement
  • Units 4 -7: (Creating a TV Pilot) Transmedia
  • Unit 8: Final Major Project

Examples of work

What consists of a Unit?

  • For example, lets examine your first Unit - Creating a Music Video.
  • 1) We will examine music video; understand why they have been effective.

  • 2) Develop a proposal for an idea.

  • 3) Undertake research, which will inform your creative decision making.

  • 4) Develop script, storyboards, health and safety form etc.

  • 5) Film & Edit (or animate)

  • 6) 500 word evaluation of creative work

This will be the typical process of each Unit.

ICE Breaker

Ice-Breaker: Interviews

  • Using the sheet detailed with questions, please find a pair and interview each other.

  • Once the interviews have been completed, we will take a seat and introduce the person you interviewed.

  • You can refer to your interview sheet.

Induction Project

Induction Project:

Introduction to Filmmaking

  • Understand how to use Filmmaking equipment and post-production software

  • Create an opening of a film sequence; be given an outline

  • Shooting begins today

  • Editing takes place on Thursday

  • Two weeks to complete.

  • Submission: Friday 20th September 2019

16th September - 20th September

  • During this week you'll develop your film into an original idea.

  • You won't re-film, but write out the script and/or 1-page summary.

  • In other words, we'll work a little backwards.

  • You'll carry out research

  • We'll examine a handful of films

  • This induction project will ease you into the course.

Next Week (Monday 9th - Friday 13th)

  • Work experience week at the College

  • Part of your induction programme

  • Will be creating various content

  • You will need to be in all week - mandatory

  • After next week you will be back to your set timetable
