water crisis

Globe warming is the reason of many water crisis around the world. When the atmosphere is hotter it can absorb more water from lakes rivers and other sources of water.

water Crisis

Pakistan water crisis

As average temperature of Pakistan is getting higher the severity and number of the droughts are going to increase. The number of floods are increasing destroying their fresh water supply. As 60% of the total water is spent on farming this is not enough for drinking. Additionally only 39% of the population have clean water making it very serve.

Impact on climate

The ocean and the climate is connected. The ocean will move the cold water near the equator and carry the warm water into the poles.

Radiation

Because of the less surface of the glaciers due to global warming less of the energy brought down to earth is reflected into the atmosphere and more solar radiation is absorbed into the earth surface

Jet Stream

The jet streams are a band of strong winds that blow from west to east on different latitudes. The jet streams can change from changing ocean patterns by the difference in cold and warm air mass.

Severe Weather

Changing ocean currents can cause changes with water temperature. Having more warm water could lead to more low pressure systems. Having more low pressure systems could lead to more extreme weather like hurricanes and thunderstorms.

Severe Weather

Impact on Ocean

Since the year 1880 sea levels have risen 8-9 inches. Glaciers melting would add freshwater that is colder in temperatures to the ocean and would change the sanity of the ocean

Sea Level Rise

Sea levels could rise as much as 6 feet before the end of the century.

Vision

Cryosphere

In the cryosphere, ice and snow cover 10% of Earth’s land, 7 % of the oceans and 2.1% of Earth’s water is in the cryosphere.

Glacial Melting

Ice sheets and glaciers are the largest contributors to sea level rise. We lose 335 billion tons of ice each year and the glaciers alone are losing 267 billions tons of ice per year.

Inside the Ice

Harsh chemicals like mercury and DDT can be stored in the ice.

Greenhouse Gases

Heat trapping gases will absorb reflected radiation and maintain energy within our atmosphere.

Greenhouse gases

Increase

increase

  • Within the past 200 years, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by 40%

  • Other gases such as methane have increased by as much as 200%

Human Activity

Things we do that release greenhouse gases

Human Activity

  • Burning fossil fuels emit carbon molecules
  • Deforestation
  • Farming
  • Increased dust
  • Urbanization changes natural environment and ecosystems
  • Industrial usage causes more pollution

Data

  • The increase of carbon dioxide causes an increase in global average temperature
