  • LSD was invented in the 40’s
  • Use of drugs in the “beat” generation
  • Anslinger's “war on marijuana”
  • After WWII prescription medicine became more prevalent
  • Government works with mafia
  • 1950’s military starts testing with LSD and amphetamines

Started his research into mind altering drugs which would become known as “psychedelics” in the early 1960s

He conducted experiments using LSD

In 1966, LSD was made illegal in the United States and controlled so strictly that not only were possession and recreational use criminalized, but all legal scientific research programs on the drug in the US were shut down as well.

Described as the “Most dangerous man in america” by Richard Nixon

  • For many years marijuana was used by jazz musicians
  • LSD was legal until 1966
  • Many Notable deaths (Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Rudy Lewis, Dinah Washington, Brian Epstein, Frankie Lymon)
  • Huge heroin use even though it was frowned upon, “The only dope worth shooting is Nixon”
