Thomas Jefferson

Early Life...

Biography

  • Thomas Jefferson lived a privileged young life.
  • He had a great education and later studied law at the University of William and Mary
  • During the Second Continental Congress which occured in 1776, Jefferson was selected due to his great writing skills to draft the Declaration of Independence.
  • He later served as the Govenor of Virgina
  • After the American Revolution Jefferson spent four years as America’s minister to France

Little Known Facts

Thomas Jefferson fathered six children, but only two daughters survived to adulthood.

Fun Facts

He is seen on the $2 bill, the nickel, and also as one of the figures of Mount Rushmore.

He graduated from the University of William and Mary at the age of 18, two years after he enrolled in the year of 1762.

Thomas Jefferson died on the same day of John Adams. Which hapened to be on the 4th of July 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was declared.

Failures

Jefferson did not have a failed presidency, but like many he had a flawed one.

Failure

Jefferson's Embargo Act outlawed trade between America and any foreign port, effectively closing in the American economy. Which made many upset.

Jefferson was also known for having slaves.

Post- Presidency

Jefferson retired to Monticello to ponder such projects as his grand designs for the University of Virginia.

Post-Presidency

He later died on July 4, 1826.

Legacy

  • Jefferson will always be celebrated for the principles of self-government that he set forth in the Declaration of Independence.

  • Jefferson had a very sucessfull presidency and great support including his cabinet which made his presidency so great.

  • The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom was one of his greatest achievements.

  • Jefferson put forth in conceiveing, promoting, founding and designing the University of Virginia as "the hobby of my old age."
