Women's Rights

By: Asher Minhas RW8

Introduction

What is Womens Rights

Most of us know that men are superior to women in different ways. Its even in the name "man" and 'women" tells us that men are higher in rank that women. The question is why do women wan to be equal to men? Why should women be treated differently that men? The world discrimination and violence against girls is one of the most serious problems in the world. It goes against the basic human rights of a person. Women are underappreciated, treated as a joke in high power jobs and treated like toys without feeling or opinions.

What are Women Rights?

Women Rights

The women's rights act is a feminist movement, where women act to get what men have but what women have been denied of. The women's rights act has fought for things such as letting women vote, giving women access to jobs (such as doing construction work) that only men were allowed to do before, and even the right to same-sex marriages. Women and men can both stand for this movement. Women's rights leaders such as Susan B. Anthony encouraged many women to join the women's rights movements. In different societies throughout history, women have had different amounts of rights. The movement fighting for women's rights to vote is called women's suffrage.

Importance of Womens Rights

"We cannnot succeed when half of us are held back" - Malala Yousafzai

Importance

It is only when women and girls have full access to their rights, from equal pay and land ownership rights to sexual rights, freedom from violence, access to education, and health rights will true equality exist. Only when women have taken leadership and peacemaking roles and have an equal political voice will economies and countries be changed and transformed. And only then will all women and girls have the self-determination they have the right to.

Influential Feminists

Feminists

Naomi Wolfe made an impact with her 1991 bestseller, The Beauty Myth, which was a must read for many feminists and people. Malala Yousafzai became the youngest and shared winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. The Pakistani schoolgirl is famous for advocating and supporting girls schools. Hillary Clinton is the only First Lady to ever run for public office, serving as the first-ever female senator from New York, Secretary of State under President Obama and as the first-ever female candidate in the 2016 presidential election. These are just a few people who have impacted womens right issues.

Education for Women

Some women all over the world are prohibited from going to school. Not only does it affect that person, but it impacts the whole world too. Education worldwide is beilved to be the number one most effective way to improve a families life. If people are not educated, then it limits the economic advancement or improvement in our countries. Out of 100 million girls, at least 60 percent of them do not have access to primary education. 960 million adults in the world are illiterate, and more than two thirds of the adults are women. That's why the womens right movement tries to help and support women for their education.

Gender Wage Gap

Gender Gap

The gender wage gap is the difference between wages earned by men and wages earned by women. The gap can be measured in various ways, but the most common method is to look at full–time, full year wages. It is also possible to measure the gender wage gap on the basis of hourly wages. Fair pay means that the work women and men do is equally respected and valued. We believe a person should get the same pay for the same work despite, gender, race or age. This is also called pay equity.
