Newton's first law DEFINITION

An object in motion keeps the same direction and speed. Unless an outside, unbalanced force is acting on it. An object at rest stays at rest.

Newton's first law DEFINITION

How it relates to basketball

Newton's first law of motion, in basketball is when the ball keeps moving unless another player stops the ball

Newton's second law definition

If mass is equal, an increase in force causes an increase in acceleration. If force is equal, a decrease in mass causes an increase in acceleration. Acceleration depends on force and mass.

Newton's second law definition

How it relates to basketball

If a player were to push a basketball with force, the basketball would accelerate fast, however if a player pushed a car with the same force, then it would accelerate less.

Newton's third law definition

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In every interaction, there are 2 individual forces acting on the 2 interacting objects.

Newton's third law definition

How it relates to basketball

If you were to throw a basketball, the action is your hand putting force on the ball, and the reaction is the ball putting force on your hand
