MY PERSONAL CULTURE

By Katya Valencia

LANGUAGE

LANGUAGE

Language is the most important point of my culture because its how my family communcite with one another.

Spainish

Spainish is one of the main languages my family speak since they are from Mexico, my grandparents speak it, my mom speaks it, and my aunt and uncle speak it.

English

English is the secondery language, most of my family speak it since coming to america, my grandparents don't really speak it because it's easier for them to just speak their mother tounge, my grandma who I sometimes have to translate for.

FOOD

Food has always been important to my way of life, when my grandma would babysit children and snack time would come around, she would always give them basic meals, or when my family come together we would always have something to eat. On holidays we would even eat.

Spaghetti and meatballs

spaghetti

When I was younger, my grandmother would always make me spaghetti but without the meatballs, I remember watching her make the pasta first then she would add the sause (from the jar). after she does all that, she would then put the finished product on a plate, put it into the microwave and serve it to me.

Tamales

tamales

Tamales is one of the main foods in mexico, it is a corn dough that can be stuffed with chicken, pork or beef. It is one of my favorite foods to eat, whether it's ones from a restaurant or ones that my grandmother make. Sometimes i even eat them on my birthday.

Traditions

Birthdays are days where my family and I would talk, eat food and eat cake, then we would try to find something to watch. On Thanksgiving, we say what we are thankful for, and our prayors. Then we eat! (typically turkey, ham, mashed potataos, and cramberry sauce.) After we eat, we watch this thanksgiving movie that my mom loves so much that's called RUBY.
