3. Uncle Tom's Cabin

The publishing of Uncle Tom's cabin led the north to be more against slavery and thus gave more power to the abolitionists. The south now ha more people going against it.

I ranked number 3 because this drew a lot of hate toward the south and the south now wants to fight because of the hate.

Free Soil Party

6. The Free Soil party

The free soil party wanted to halt the expansion of slavery westward. They do not want to end slavery, only stop it's spread.

I ranked this 6 because unlike abolitionists, they don't want slavery completely gone, only wanting to stop the spread which is less provoke than ending it all-together.

I put this picture because the free soil party has soil in it's name and I could find a good picture of the free soil party.

Missouri Compromise

8. Missouri Compromise

In 1820, Missouri wanted to join the US as a slave state however states can't join the us as slave states if their above a certain line. To allow Missouri to come in as a slave state, they reached a compromise where Missouri will be entered as a slave state, but Maine will be added as a free state to balance the two sides in congress.

I ranked this 8th because this didn't provoke the two sides and only really detailed the issue of slavery in the future for both sides.

Dred Scott V. Stanford

9. Dred Scott vs Stanford

Dred Scott was a fugitive slave that tried to sue his past owner over the fugitive slave act that because he was living in free territory for ten years, he should be counted as a free man. However, Congress determined that he couldn't sue because he was an african american and he wasn't a legal citizen, thus determining that any african american wasn't a legal citizen even if free states.

I ranked this number 9 because it grew tensions between north and south greatly. but this from the eyes of a southerner and to them this is all positive.
